4th March , 2013: The Mercy Social Centre in Ashalebotwe will again this year be beneficiaries of the proceeds of the third edition of the Lakeside Marina/Happy FM Fun Run. Last year, the management of Happy fm and Lakeside Marina donated items to support continuous care for the inhabitants of the centre. Held on 6th March, the fun run seeks to contribute to a healthier society by drumming home the long-term benefits of developing a healthy lifestyle, highlighting the health benefits of exercise and sports, and ultimately celebrating life and good health among Ghanaians.
Registration for the approximately 5 km run is open to the general public, with the option to register as a family, an individual or a corporate body. Up for grabs include awards for the fastest man, fastest woman, fastest child aged 12 and below, fastest teenager, fastest runner over 50, fastest family, fastest CEO, and fastest corporate team.
According to Emmanuel Akrumah, General Manager for Happy FM ‘the annual Fun Run aims at bringing people together for a healthy competition and making them realize and appreciate the health benefits of regular exercises and sports related activities. Aside the health benefits, people get to interact, share ideas and even network for business purposes.,’ Mr. Akrumah noted.
Mr. Salah Kalmoni, Executive Director of Silver Star Towers, owners of Lakeside Marina Park noted that “We all agree on how important it is to stay healthy through exercise and sports. The Fun Run is therefore a great opportunity to highlight the need to engage in physical activity, whilst supporting care for the under-privileged. This is also a great opportunity for parents to bond with their children whiles engaging in this great sporting event as a family.”
Registration, which began some weeks ago, has recorded an impressive number of participants. Registration centres include the Lakeside Marina Park, Happy FM, Silver Star Towers, Pippas gym and Global Media Alliance offices.
